Model color schemes

Hello all,

is there any way (or workaround) to define various color schemes for a part or assembly model?

For example, when we are working on an assembly, we use different colors to distinguish the different components.  Also, at the same time and when we have to make some rendered representations, we have to define some other colors in order to simulate reality as close as possible.

Any ideas?  How can someone switch from one color scheme to the other?

Thanks in advance.

This is not possible to keep annotations linked on the component to their exploded position during a conversion.

Rearranging/inserting figures in Creo Illustrate

I am new to Creo Illustrate and I have a question regarding rearrangement/insertion of of figues in Creo Illustrate 3.

When I insert a new blank figure it's always added at the end after all the existing figures. If I want to add this in between let's say figure 1 and 2, how do I do that? I don't seem to be able to just drag and drop it there. And the same if I for some reason want to rearrange the sequence of the figures, how can I do that?

Another example : If I delete Figure 2 and later want to add a new "Figure 2" then how can that be done without it ending at the end after all the existing figures?

Sending PDF's from Creo View

How can I set Creo View to send a pdf instead of a pvz file?  Our publisher is set to create pdf's.  When you view them in Creo and want to email them to a vendor or dealer, it wants to send a pvz file instead of a pdf.

Render trick with spheres

This is a Creo 2.0 M040 part.  There is no reason to believe this will work on future releases as it is likely a bug.

But... for the meantime, I found a way to change the color of half a sphere with basic Creo render.  If you ever -tried- to do this you know what a pain it can be.

The idea is that the color is applied with the sphere only revolved half way 'round.  Change the color of the solid body and then apply a different color to the hemisphere.  Then change the revolve to 360 degrees.  Whallah!... you now have two appearances on a contiguous spherical surface.

Removing Fold Lines

I've found the option for show_total_unfold_seam to remove the central fold seam lines from an unfolded section view, but that doesn't seem to take the cake in the attached situation below where I need to cut through multiple bolts on different patterns. True to being creo, I get an athentic view over one I can actually use. I wasn't able to select and delete the line with edge display either.

Can this be remidied by drawing the connection in the section view's cutting sketch in a different way?

While I'm at it, due to the nature of our designs "shown out of position" comes up a lot in old drawings we have on file, and sometimes I've been asked to draw our models to such as a workaround. Is there any way to impliment this without creation of a secondary model or a having a misrepresentation of the primary model? Any favored workarounds or does being pulled from a 3d model make drawings too realistic? My company is used to working in AutoCAD and thus able to fudge views, and transitioning older works to Creo has been a bit of a pain when they want me to match views perfectly on the recreated drawings unless I've been missing some option hidden here.

CreoView publishing as-stored or latest

As the use of CreoView increases in our processes our CAD team gets repeating questions of why the CreoView viewable does not match the Creo Parametric model? Upon investigation we learn that a lower level component was edited and checked in to PDMLink which created the new as-stored image for that component. When the parent assembly is viewed in CreoView they expect to see the latest lower level component like they would if they added the parent to a workspace and opened in Creo Parametric. This is not the case with CreoView since it creates the collection of viewables associated to the checked in file. Whereas Creo Parametric builds the parent/child dependancies based on a preference to use "latest" versions.

If I may ask, how are other companies dealing with this scenario?

To pose a simple question with a hard answer. Why can't CreoView build its viewable image using similar function to Creo Parametric where it pulls the latest image files from the components to build the parent image ? This would certainly slow down the growth and maintenance of millions of image files and present what most users expect to see when looking at the lite weight file.

Changing Graphics card

I currently have custom gaming PC which has a Gigabyte Nvedia 770 with 4gb built in and 8gb of ram, although it is not designed for CAD I believe that it could run better than my integrated graphics on my 3770k.

I'm not sure but I believe that Creo is only using my CPU which is being over loaded, I even got a new cooler when it reached 105 degrees C when rendering.

Does someone know who to check in Creo parametric what graphics card is being used and if there is a way of switching to my other graphics card.

Greatly appreciated if anyone can help.

showing hole depth in a drawing

I'm doing a drawing with holes.  If I use "show model annotations" and select on the feature, it shows the dimesions for that feature in that view.

In Wildfire I had an option to show all dimensions, and it would show hole dimensions, and the depth in a perpendicular view.  I could then edit the hole diameter dimension to include the depth.  [why isn't this an option to show with the diameter dimension? It should have been added a long time ago]

Anyways, in Creo I show the dimensions for that feature, and the depth does not show.  I have to go to another view, turn that view to show hidden, find the feature, and then show the dimension.

Am I missing some simple means of getting the hole depth, or did Creo lose something along the way?

Creo View 2.0 M040 install path

We've been using Creo View 2.0 M010 in connection with Windchill PDMLink 10.0 M030 without issue for over a year.  We've had it installed in a non-default path (D:\apps\PTC\Creo 2.0\View) as we typically keep all our CAD software and related apps isolated to that D:\apps directory.  In preparation for moving from Wildfire 4 to Creo 2 Parametric M090 next month, we thought we'd go to the latest M-code of Creo View 2.0 - M040.   With that all Creo 2.0 related software is installed at D:\apps\PTC\Creo 2.0  - view continues to be in a "View" folder in that location and Creo Parametric 2.0 M090 is in the "Common Files", "Parametric" etc.  Problem is, with Creo View 2.0 M040 installed in that location, it no longer works with Windchill PDMLink.  The viewable window on the information page for an object is black and can't be clicked on to launch View.  If I uninstall Creo View 2.0 M040 and let it install to the default C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 2.0\View folder, it works fine with Windchill.  Going back and forth with this (uninstall, reinstall - alternating the paths) there is a clear correllation - default install path, it works...our preferred install path, it does not work.  I tested it with Creo View 3.0 M010 and it behaves the same as 2.0 M040 - works with Windchill if installed to the default "C:\Program Files\ . . ." path, doesn't work with Windchill if installed to our preferred "D:\apps\. . .".  Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?  Thoughts on why it worked fine with Creo View 2.0 M010, but M040 and after it does not?  In all cases, Creo View runs fine if manually started from the installation.  Checking the registry, the install path is getting noted properly when installed in either location.

Creo View Markups

Greetings all.

We are upgrading to Windchill 10.2 and Creo 2.0 from Windchill 9.1 and Pro/Elements 5.0   We are wanting to use the "Mark up" funciton in Creo View to both mark up our drawings in the review process and to retain the information for later review of the design process.

I am looking for best practices, and how to understand the way that Creo View works.

How are annotations preserved when the revision changes?

Will the annotation stay with the revision it was added to, or will it transmit to the next revision?

Also, will they stay permanently or are they deleted when a Creo drawing or model is released?

Thanks in advance, James
