Catpart not visualising in CreoView from details tab in WIndchill

$

When viewing a product details in Windchill, from the details tab, opening the part in CreoView results in one of it's constituent parts not being visualised even though it appears in the structure tree.

If, in the Windchill product information window, the Structure tab is selected, all of the parts are visible in the visualisation tab.  So it would appear that the visualisation has been generated.

In the CreoView window structure tree, the 'missing' part has a red diagonal line through its constituent parts as shown in the attachment.

I have re published the problem part, and still it will not visualise.

Can anyone please advise what is the problem here?

Creo View 2.0 M040 install path

We've been using Creo View 2.0 M010 in connection with Windchill PDMLink 10.0 M030 without issue for over a year.  We've had it installed in a non-default path (D:\apps\PTC\Creo 2.0\View) as we typically keep all our CAD software and related apps isolated to that D:\apps directory.  In preparation for moving from Wildfire 4 to Creo 2 Parametric M090 next month, we thought we'd go to the latest M-code of Creo View 2.0 - M040.   With that all Creo 2.0 related software is installed at D:\apps\PTC\Creo 2.0  - view continues to be in a "View" folder in that location and Creo Parametric 2.0 M090 is in the "Common Files", "Parametric" etc.  Problem is, with Creo View 2.0 M040 installed in that location, it no longer works with Windchill PDMLink.  The viewable window on the information page for an object is black and can't be clicked on to launch View.  If I uninstall Creo View 2.0 M040 and let it install to the default C:\Program Files\PTC\Creo 2.0\View folder, it works fine with Windchill.  Going back and forth with this (uninstall, reinstall - alternating the paths) there is a clear correllation - default install path, it works...our preferred install path, it does not work.  I tested it with Creo View 3.0 M010 and it behaves the same as 2.0 M040 - works with Windchill if installed to the default "C:\Program Files\ . . ." path, doesn't work with Windchill if installed to our preferred "D:\apps\. . .".  Has anyone else seen this type of behavior?  Thoughts on why it worked fine with Creo View 2.0 M010, but M040 and after it does not?  In all cases, Creo View runs fine if manually started from the installation.  Checking the registry, the install path is getting noted properly when installed in either location.

CreoView publishing as-stored or latest

$

As the use of CreoView increases in our processes our CAD team gets repeating questions of why the CreoView viewable does not match the Creo Parametric model? Upon investigation we learn that a lower level component was edited and checked in to PDMLink which created the new as-stored image for that component. When the parent assembly is viewed in CreoView they expect to see the latest lower level component like they would if they added the parent to a workspace and opened in Creo Parametric. This is not the case with CreoView since it creates the collection of viewables associated to the checked in file. Whereas Creo Parametric builds the parent/child dependancies based on a preference to use "latest" versions.

If I may ask, how are other companies dealing with this scenario?

To pose a simple question with a hard answer. Why can't CreoView build its viewable image using similar function to Creo Parametric where it pulls the latest image files from the components to build the parent image ? This would certainly slow down the growth and maintenance of millions of image files and present what most users expect to see when looking at the lite weight file.

Creo View Drawing Compare

Creo View Drawing Compare..  seems like we took something that should be easy and made it very hard.  Why can't I find the drawing I want to compare two seperate revisions or iterations of that I find on the details page with the history tab, select the two objects and choose open in CREO VIEW.  Then In Creo View I should be able to do something as easy as select the two and pick a compare action.

What is the deal with adding to clipboard "and you cannot add them both from the history tab, it claims it adds them but it dosn't".  You have to go to each of the objects detail page in order to have the drawings show up on the clip board.  Now you have to go to the clipboard and select both objects and choose to open in Creo view.

Once you get the objects in Creo.. not very intuitive regarding the compare option or getting the overlay of the two drawings....

How to make lines show up thinner when exporting drawing as a PDF in a Net Based Creo Parametric?

Hello,

I am using a Net Based Creo Parametric 2.0. When I export an engineering drawing to a PDF file, the resulting lines are too thick, and obscure some of the fine details. I have attempted to follow what others have written, which have to do with including pentable files in the working directory and/or modifying the config.pro file, and checking the "Use Pentable" box in the export dialog box. However, (1) there is no pentable.pnt file in my working directory, and when I create one (opening a notepad text file, copying some suggested block of code like the one below into it:

pen 1 thickness 0.003 in

pen 2 thickness 0.005 in

etc.

and finally saving it as a .pnt file), I can't reopen the resulting .pnt file; I get an error that says "can't open because file is corrupt." (2) I have tried to copy certain blocks of code into the config file but to no avail.

If someone would be so kind, what I seek is a clear, step-by-step explanation of everything I need to do to get a PDF with thin black lines from a drawing, including any blocks of code if necessary, the proper way to create any files, what folders to put them in, etc.

Basically a "getting thinner lines for dummies"

Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Rearranging/inserting figures in Creo Illustrate

$

I am new to Creo Illustrate and I have a question regarding rearrangement/insertion of of figues in Creo Illustrate 3.

When I insert a new blank figure it's always added at the end after all the existing figures. If I want to add this in between let's say figure 1 and 2, how do I do that? I don't seem to be able to just drag and drop it there. And the same if I for some reason want to rearrange the sequence of the figures, how can I do that?

Another example : If I delete Figure 2 and later want to add a new "Figure 2" then how can that be done without it ending at the end after all the existing figures?

Creo View printing black page

Hi Everyone,

I'm having problems with some of our stations (mostly laptops with onboard intel graphics) which are working with Creo View 2.0. The program is able to open and view models and drawings but when the user selects print the image prints as a solid black page. This is repeatable accross all printers and even print to PDF converters. Has anyone seen this before and is there a known fix?

Thanks

Lightweight Graphics Representation

We are trying to get LGR to work in Creo 2 Parameteric M050 and M090 tied to PDMLink 10.1 M040. We have followed the documentation provided by the local PTC rep who we have worked with for many years. We can it it to work with the files saved locally but not tied to PDMLink.

I am able to spin and zoom on the thumbnail in PDMLink, but when we open a file using LGR in Creo, we get outlined boxes representing the parts and subassemblies.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Product View: PDFs will not open

I have a user that cannot open PDFs from his computer with Product View. The output is a blank screen. The message that appears when right clicking on the file name and Open in a New Window is that he does not have the Collective Document Collaboration option installed. I do not receive this message with any other user. I can remote in to his computer and open a PDF fine but sitting at his computer at his desk, I cannot. His other standalone PDFs open fine for him. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Product View with the same results. Adobe Reader 9 is properly installed. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

Creo View Problem

For some reason when i open up my assembly in creo view, not everything will show up in the viewer.  It seems that any time I have a part with a import feature in it, the geometry will not show up.  Is this  a bug, or normal?

This happens in both creo view and creo view express.

Can you open a SolidEdge file directly in Creo? Creo View?

Hello,

I have been told that you can open a SolidEdge file directly in Creo View Professional.  I only have Creo View Express and do not see this capability advertised with any "professional" version.  Can anyone tell me if any of PTC's Creo 2 applications can open a SolidEdge file directly?  Any other way?  Saving the SolidEdge file to a neutral format through SolidEdge is not an option, we do not have SolidEdge and only have access to the SolidEdge file.

Thanks in advance for the help!

Model color schemes

$

Hello all,

is there any way (or workaround) to define various color schemes for a part or assembly model?

For example, when we are working on an assembly, we use different colors to distinguish the different components.  Also, at the same time and when we have to make some rendered representations, we have to define some other colors in order to simulate reality as close as possible.

Any ideas?  How can someone switch from one color scheme to the other?

Thanks in advance.
